I am in the same boat. Unfortunately my TFS box does not have this conversion wizard installed, I believe this is why I am seeing the "error" message about VS not knowing how to handle .csproj files. I had the same problem but still was unable to open my .csproj project even after clean install of MSVS2008 Team Suite. I can't find any solution to this issue.
