Hmm - did a 'locate 7100' on this laptop, and didn't find a .ppd listed at all. This is an OPTIONAL/RUNTIME ONLY dependency. If HP have removed the parallel portion of the driver then that is HPs fault and is no fault of Linux / Ubuntu.

If you're like a lot of people, you probably shut your computer down and rebooted, hoping the problem had gone away. Anyway, that's theline to investigate. But, what exactly is a DLL error, and how does it affect your computer? In the most commonly encountered scenario, a program freezes and all windows belonging to the frozen program become static, and though the mouse cursor still moves on the screen, neither typing
So far so good...granted I had to go back two steps for the cups-image dependency by installing libjpeg-dev and then libtiff4-dev first. I'm fairly sure that that is thewrong driver.
