Often you need to first install a system driver (usually from intel), and after that you can install the actual soundcard drivers, at least if this device is built into the shutdown the computer and power back up. I have had problems with Windows Update incorrectly identifying components and recommending C-Media drivers when it was a Realtek version... I have currently got the CMedia 5.12.01.0051 drivers working fine under Windows 7. One odd sympton: the mouse clisks so fast its like a buzzing sound everytime I move the mouse.
It supplied Realtek drivers, I had C-Media drivers, but I think some unruly driver updater someone recommended had downloaded the wrong drivers, as I remembered having Realtek before. Forums make it so complicated and provide a myriad of links, demand all sorts of computer info... We also provide an extensive Windows 7 tutorial section that covers a wide range of tips and tricks. I reaaaaaaaaally want sound back on my computer!!!!!!!!
