You usually want to use the Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format for Macs and the GUID Partition table. You can only upload a photo (png, jpg, jpeg) or a video (3gp, 3gpp, mp4, mov, avi, mpg, mpeg, rm). This HD worked fine on my G4 Powerbook (OSX 10.3.9) and it still does. It almost sounds like the drive may be formatted as NTFS which would make it read only. You will need a driver installed on your Mac in order to write to the drive.
