I then checked their email and there were two messages from McAfee stating "A recent update may have prevented you from connecting to the Internet..." - and how were they to I do not use Windows Firewall, but I presume it has similar settings. can you connect to the gateway's web page?

The problem is, it simply cant talk to the router. HDD failure? It turned out to be a disconnected wifi antenna cable inside the laptop. I was at my wit's end.
