No thanks to sourcesafe though, I was considering rebuilding the entire database from source files before I found the fix. Cannot add SourceSafe Database as Visual Studio 2010 source control. . just noticed there is a temp file sst1116.tmp in the folder - that's probably the ss.ini file that vss was updatng when something happened. ss.ini is present and VSS repository specified as network path. It looks all the users, who currently have tmp files in their VSS folders, are the users that VPN into our system remote. The ss.ini needs to be in the user's folder for the data base.
